The UK Institute for Technical Skills and Strategy (ITSS) has launched a new Technical Careers Resource Hub, providing free resources to support technical career development, progression and workforce planning across higher education and research.

Developed collaboratively by 27 institutions across eight projects, the Resource Hub brings together tried-and-tested toolkits, frameworks and practical resources to help technical professionals, managers and organisations create more structured and transparent career pathways.

The Hub is designed for Research Technical Professionals (RTPs), technicians, technical managers, HR representatives and senior leaders working across higher education and research institutions.

The resources cover four key themes:

  • Career Development for Technical Professionals – video libraries, toolkits and resources to support technicians’ career development.

  • Technical Talent Management – tools to support managers with retention, workforce planning and succession.

  • Technical Career Pathways – workforce mapping tools and frameworks to help organisations develop clear career pathways.

  • Technical Staff as Partners – resources to strengthen collaboration between technical professionals and academic colleagues.

The Technical Careers Resource Hub is free to access and download, with no registration required, making these resources available to technical professionals and organisations across the sector.
